Rehabilitate and Service Wells and Lineshaft Pumps

This project was won through a competitive bid process and consisted of testing, rehabilitating and servicing six wells and lineshaft pumps in the City of Sudbury’s Valley East wellfield.    Well pumps up to 40 L/s and 40 hp in size were evaluated and serviced as part of the contract.  All wells were initially tested to determine baseline well and pump performance conditions.  Video inspections and flow profiles were conducted at each location to determine the condition of the well screens and casings as well as the distribution of the flow across the screened intervals.  This information was used to develop and implement rehabilitation programs specific to the conditions present at each individual well.  These efforts were successful in restoring the performance of all wells included in the contract.

Concurrent with the testing and rehabilitation program each pump was completely disassembled and inspected.  This included inspection of all column pipe, couplings and shafting.  A brief pump inspection report was prepared for each well documenting the condition of all equipment including measurements of all critical wear points with respect to manufacturer specified tolerances including recommendations for repairs.  All wearing parts exceeding manufacturer’s tolerances and/or with excessive wear were either replaced or machined to meet original factory specifications.  Each pump unit was carefully balanced, assembled and tested by our technicians on site. All motors were professionally balanced after installation to maximize the longevity and reliability of each installation.

Stainless steel liners were installed in two wells to seal holes in extremely corroded casings.  These installations were successful in sealing off the damaged casing and extending the functional life of each well.

As with all Lotowater projects detailed reports including analysis of rehabilitation results, comparison of performance data to historical data, as-constructed drawings and detailed installation reports with all important pump installation details were included.  All reports were submitted in PDF and hard copy format.

The project was completed on budget and, even with the additional liner installation work, ahead of schedule.  The client was extremely satisfied with Lotowater and our performance on this project.
